A Love Letter
My Dearest Love,
There have been so many things I’ve longed to tell you in our time apart. I want to tell you I’ve been learning and growing. I’ve been meeting incredible new people, hearing new stories, and I haven’t thought about the way we were. However, you deserve the whole of my time without you.
I want to tell you I miss you. I can’t imagine life without you, but this isn’t about me. This is about you. I know you’re hurting. I know that you think there’s a new love in my life; an easier love, a cheaper love. So much easier I merely have to log into my computer. So much easier, I don’t have to wear makeup, or even pants when I’m with them. I know you’re not feeling as confident as you once were. You’re in a rut, you feel run down, abandoned, obsolete, but I want to tell you my love it’s not true. You still have my heart, even in your absence, I ached for you in ways you couldn’t imagine.
To think I could simply forget our weekly cheap dates that left my shoes as sticky and my mind as drunk as if it’d spent the same three hours and thirty more dollars in a bar. To think I could move on from all of the fun choices you had me make. To think I wouldn’t miss the quick and dirty trips to bodegas and Duane Reade’s for snacks, because as soon as I came to you I knew you required my undivided attention. You are not cheaper, except on Tuesdays. You are not easier, but my angel, you are so worth the effort it is impossible for me to stay away.
So what do I need to do? What can I say to help you get your groove back? Do you need me to say ‘you complete me’? That ‘you had me at ‘Hello’? That ‘it wasn’t over, it still isn’t over’? Maybe ‘As you wish’, “I wish I knew how to quit you,’ ‘I love you 3000’ or ’You jump I jump’. How about ’You have bewitched me, body and soul and I love…I love…I love you.”?
Do you need me to ride out the sunroof of a car with roses and climb my way up a fire escape to rescue you? What about standing outside your window with a boombox blasting ‘In Your Eyes’? I’ll come to your job in a Navy uniform and bridal carry you into a new life. What if I wait til New Years Eve to realize our friendship was always something more, and I crash that party you went to without me at midnight? Do you want me to meet you at the top of the Empire State Building? Name a time! Pick a telescope! What sporting event am I interrupting by running onto the field? What terminal do I need to run through to get to you before your business trip to Paris? Say where and I’ll go…anywhere but La Guardia.
What all of this means, is that, I am willing to make the effort for you. Whatever you need me to do, Movie Theaters, I’ll do it. Even if that means waiting. Because, my love, you are worth the wait, you are worth it. So always remember I’ll be here for you.
Here’s Looking at you Kid,
P.S I’m so happy you’re opening back up select locations. We’ll be together again soon. All my love. -O
Quick Note about the Reading Playlist: This one was a tough one to get down to five songs, y’all. So here are a couple honorable mentions of incredible and iconic movie love songs for you.
- I’m Kissing You: Des’ree (Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet), I know Lovefool is on there, and they’re from the same movie, but I was scared Kissing You was too much of a deep cut.
- Secret Garden: Bruce Springsteen (Jerry Maguire), it was on literally every list I looked at as one of the most romantic songs from a film but I was nervous about adding ANOTHER Bruce Springsteen song to a playlist I’ve made. He’s my favorite, but I’ll try to keep that love in check.
- In Your Eyes: Peter Gabriel (Say Anything), it is five minutes and thirty seconds long…I couldn’t do it after doing I’m Not In Love last week; BUT I reference the scene so I’m including it in the honorable mentions.
